Colin van Wyk

Optometrist DIP OPTOM FOA (SA) MC OPTOM (UK) CAS (USA)

I am an optometrist with a passion for precision and personalized eye care. Originally from Bulawayo, Zimbabwe, I began my journey in optometry at Wits University in Johannesburg. After honing my skills for two decades in Worcester, I founded Colin van Wyk Optometrist in Somerset West in 2004.

My commitment to excellence led me to pursue further studies at Glasgow Caledonian University, earning membership in the UK College of Optometry. Additional qualifications from Boston New England College of Optometry have equipped me with specialized knowledge in ocular disease and pharmaceutical application.

In my 40-year marriage and throughout raising two wonderful children, I’ve maintained a deep love for my profession and a dedication to helping others. Beyond optometry, I find joy in golf and staying fit. Known for my friendly demeanour and expertise in complex optical solutions, I particularly enjoy the challenges posed by hard contact lenses. I look forward to continuing to serve the Somerset West community with integrity and care.

Meriek van den Berg

Optometrist B.OPTOM (UOFS)

I grew up in a small town in Northern Cape and started my optometry journey at the University of Free State, where I graduated in 2010. I joined Colin van Wyk Optometrists in 2019 and have since developed a keen interest in diagnostic contact lenses, paediatric optometry, and helping individuals with low vision. I believe there’s always a way to improve someone’s quality of life through comprehensive vision care. Besides my professional life, I love being a wife and mom to a wonderful son. When I’m not working, you can find me hitting the trails on my mountain bike or enjoying time with my horses. I bring my expertise and a genuine love for people to ensure every patient gets compassionate and personalized care.

Jacque le Roux

Optometrist B.OPTOM (UOFS)

I am an optometrist at Colin van Wyk Optometrist. Originally from a small town in Mpumalanga, I completed my optometry degree at the University of Free State in 2018. Since then, my journey has brought me to the Western Cape where I have been practicing optometry. I have developed a keen interest in Myopia control, binocular vision, and paediatric optometry. Currently, I’m focused on expanding my expertise in Dyslexia diagnosis and therapy for children. Outside of work, I find joy in spending time with my family—I’m married and we share our home with our two beloved dog kids. Golfing and staying active are also passions of mine. My career is driven by a deep-seated desire to serve others and enhance their quality of life through improved vision care. I look forward to meeting you and addressing your eye care needs here at Colin van Wyk Optometrist.

Linda Pienaar

Occupational Therapist B. OT (US), Practice Manager

I am an Occupational Therapist and Practice Manager at Colin van Wyk Optometrist, joining the team in 2005. My primary focus has been on running the Wise Eye Reading program, where I’m deeply passionate about helping children unlock their full potential and cultivate a love for reading. In 2007, after identifing the need in our community, we opened up our Low Vision devision.

I do a comprehensive Low Vision consultation, where I assist individuals with visual impairments through various means, from providing devices to offering home adaptations and coping mechanisms. What brings me the greatest satisfaction in my work is knowing that I’m making a tangible difference in people’s lives, instilling hope and helping them navigate challenges with resilience.

Lizanne Kotzè

Frame and Lens Consultant

I have joined the team at Colin van Wyk Optometrist in 2016. As a frame and lens consultant, I bring a blend of creativity and technical skill to help you find the perfect eyewear solution. My background in art fuels my passion for selecting frames that not only fit impeccably but also complement your personal style with the right colours and shapes. I thoroughly enjoy the intricacies of lens cutting and take pride in repairing frames to extend their lifespan. The lab is where I feel most at home, ensuring every detail meets our high standards of quality and craftsmanship. I look forward to assisting you in finding eyewear that not only enhances your vision but also reflects your unique personality and preferences.

Frame and lens consultant

I am a frame and lens consultant at Colin van Wyk Optometrist. I absolutely love what I do—working closely with people to help them find the perfect frames that reflect their personal style. Whether it’s advising on the latest trends or ensuring optimal lens selection, I thrive on making sure every customer walks away feeling confident and comfortable. I enjoy learning new things; finding better ways to help customers and execute tasks in the lab.

Liezl van der Merwe

Receptionist

I am the receptionist at Colin van Wyk Optometrists. I absolutely love my role here because it allows me to channel my enthusiasm into finding solutions for our patients’ daily challenges. Building relationships with our patients over time is incredibly fulfilling for me, knowing that I can make a difference in their eye care journey. Outside of work, my focus shifts to my young family. We cherish spending time with our church community, whether it’s enjoying dinners, picnics, or engaging in community service wherever there’s a need.
